🍔 Honest Eats
Welcome to Honest Eats, a section I’m trying out where I personally review local food service businesses. Today I’m reviewing Cafe Rodem, 7b John Street, Lidcombe.
There’s actually 2 Cafe Rodems in Lidcombe and the one I’m talking about is Cafe Rodem 1, which is the North side of the Lidcombe train station.
The cafe is a small establishment serving take away coffee as well as normal offerings like sandwiches, muffins, croissants and fruit breads.
Rodem is in a decent location being 2 minutes from Lidcombe trains. There is some street parking and a council carpark behind the old police station nearby.
They also have a very extensive all day breakfast menu including bacon and egg rolls, big breakfast and eggs benny leading into lunchtime choices like hamburgers fish and chips, and pasta.

It was lunch time and I ordered a Passionfruit Crush ($8) and Crispy Chicken Burger w/ chips ($15).
The passionfruit crush is an ice blended drink with passionfruit syrup or nectar. In my experience running a cafe, these drinks are cheap to make and easy to serve.
$8 is definitely on the higher end, as you can buy similar drinks in the city around $7-8.
The burger only took 8 minutes to come out.
The chips were crisp but not burnt and the chicken burger was crunchy. It was quite large as well, maybe even overstuffed with slaw. From a value standpoint, this was decent serving and fairly priced.
My only criticism is that the abundance of slaw and the size of the bun made it difficult to handle sand I had to resort to cutting it with my knife and fork.
If I was to make a suggestion I would keep the bun size but reduce the amount of slaw by at least half. Also on this occasion there was a lot of mayo which was overpowering the chicken.
Cafe Rodem is open 7 days, 5:30 am - 4:00 pm on weekdays, 7:00 am - 4:00pm Saturdays and 7:00 am - 12:00 pm on Sundays.
Please note: Businesses featured in Honest Eats are not sponsors and are unaware that they are being reviewed.
